Algodon Estate Chardonnay 2023
No doubt one of the most prominent and popular of the white varieties, the Chardonnay grape is sometimes referred to as the Queen of the whites. In our quest to develop representative wines of San Rafael’s terroir and to maintain a high standard of quality and optimal ripening fruit, our winery harvests this Chardonnay in the first days of March. This results in optimal ripening of the fruit, which creates a wine of excellent quality. This wine’s aging in French oak barrels results in the opportunity to appreciate aromas of tropical fruits and flavors from the wood. Algodon Chardonnay represents the truest potential of the great white wines.
TASTING NOTES
The bright yellow-green color shows the youth of this wine, which offers aromas of tropical fruits, citrus and a hint of pears. This Chardonnay is aged for 5 months in new oak, and the contact with the charred wood gives depth and complexity to the wine. The perfect harmony between the fruit and the wood, combining great fruit and good freshness, makes this wine enjoyable either as aperitif or with meals. The complexity and charm of this wine complements perfectly pork loin, pear marmalade in a reduction of white wine, or a hint of ginger and glazed onions for instance. Also, it goes wonderfully with shellfish or well-seasoned seafood and rice, and indeed cream desserts, pineapple, vanilla and citric marmalades.
