Celebrating International Cabernet Franc Day This December 4th!

Join us in raising a glass to one of our most loved, and best selling wines!

The Cabernet Franc variety is one of the most widely grown red grapes in the world, and some say it may even be the future of Argentine wines.  This varietal was first planted in Argentina in 1899, and by 1990 there was still less than 200 acres of vines planted throughout the entire country.  Today however, Argentina is wise to this exceptional varietal, its quality, and its popularity, with nearly 3,000 planted acres of Cabernet Franc - and growing - mainly concentrated in the Mendoza region.

ALGODON’S CABERNET FRANC/MALBEC BLEND IS HARVESTED AROUND THE SECOND WEEK OF APRIL

Algodon Wine Estates began producing Cabernet Franc wines as a varietal, and in blends, about 10 years ago.  The dry, hot climate of San Rafael is an outstanding environment for our vineyards.  These grapes ripen very easily, so our Cabernet Franc is filled with heaps of blackberries, cherry, pepper and vanilla, with a little bit of mint.

Our Cabernet Franc/Malbec blend is first created when we harvest both varieties about the same time, around the second week of April. The fermentation process is then realized using the microvinfication technique, which lets the whole of the grapes macerate within brand new French oak barrels for 60 days.  Following the end of the fermentation process, this wine is aged for another 18 months in its barrel.

ALGODON WINE ESTATE’S WINE TEAM TAKES GREAT PRIDE IN HANDPICKING AND SORTING THE FINEST GRAPES FROM EACH YEAR’S HARVEST

Algodon Reserva Cabernet Franc/Malbec has been one our bestselling wine in the U.S. to date, and just ask any fan of Algodon - there is good reason for it.

Complex and elegant, this blend shows off deep red ruby color with crimson glints. The intense aromatic character ranges from mineral to ripe fruits (cherries, strawberries and plum), allied to soft subtle notes of vanilla and tobacco.  The flavors displayed in the mouth are complex and incredibly soft and balanced.  Its singular structure promises a lengthy aging potential.

Algodon's Cabernet Franc pairs well with grilled or slow cooked pork, venison, duck, beef, lamb, and smoky BBQ (yum!), as well as rich legumes like black beluga lentils.   So, roll up your sleeves and get to work in the kitchen, but not before opening your next bottle of Algodon’s Reserva Cabernet Franc/Malbec!
